Richard Launder: Sales Momentum, Earth Day and More

The first quarter of 2017 comes to an end and what a fantastic selling quarter it has been! All of our brands have seen record breaking sales and in fact the second week of January was the biggest sales week in over 13 years! Trafalgar, our biggest brand has 100% of their 2017 European summer trips on definite departure status already. We expect the sales momentum will continue through 2017 and to support our collective efforts we have hired an additional 18 new district sales managers (all brand specific) primarily in the Eastern USA. Please see the sales manager map linked here to find your specific representatives. There are now about 70 DSMs in the USA to support you. They are committed to their brands and they are great people! This first quarter we also launched the “TTC Agent Academy” with e-learning modules for Trafalgar, Uniworld, Insight and Contiki. Transatlantic air pricing continues to be an important driver for our guests. Our brands have the lowest fares we have offered in 5 years available through the end of April (combined with our river cruises, guided vacations, trips and vacation packages). The number of guests buying air from TTC has increased about 30% in 2017 so not only do we have the pricing right but guests do appreciate the convenience of one stop shopping, the ability to lock in fares with just a deposit and that we handle all schedule changes and most advance seat assignments for free.

Last month we announced an amended “URL policy” which will take affect from May 15th. With respect to website domain names, TTC brands will not allow others to use its trademark names to the left of the “.com or similar suffix. Please click here to see the full language. This policy is intended to ensure guests are not confused about which websites are ours and which are third party websites. This policy sits alongside our existing policy that prohibits the public advertising of discounts or rebates.

I do want to share important news about the our upcoming Earth Day campaign on April 22nd. “The Travel Corporation and TreadRight Foundation support Wildlife SOS India with an earth day campaign”. For every booking made on April 22 with The Travel Corporation’s (TTC) family of brands, the TreadRight Foundation will donate $1 to Wildlife SOS – India to help save elephants in abusive or harmful situations.” See the PR release linked here Separately, Uniworld will be donating $1 to Just A Drop for every booking made on April 22. Just A Drop is an international water development charity, to help deliver high-impact interventions in water supply for sanitation and hygiene.
